Winter Trees

The Intro to Art kids have been hard at work creating these winter trees and working with watercolor for the first time this year. I showed them how to draw three different types of trees, birch trees, oak trees, and willow trees. After a good sketching session together as a class, the kids chose their favorite tree (or two) to draw with black prisma colors. They had to show texture in the tree and also create a monochromatic mountain scene in the background. The sky was a free choice and I was very surprised and happy to see some very dramatic ethereal and fiery skies as I was grading these. Not too bad for first time watercolor painting, I would say!
