This was my first time experimenting and teaching plaster so it took a few tries on my own before I was able to show the kids how to do it. Overall, the process is fairly quick and easy and the students were able to work in small groups with my supervision as they mixed their own plaster of paris solution and poured it into their own plastic face molds. The trick is to tap the molds as you pour it in to keep the backside smooth and flat for adhesive later one. The students then painted their own Day of the Dead or tribal theme on their plaster faces and kept the design going throughout their background made of illustration board or cardboard. I definitely enjoyed both teaching and working with plaster and hopefully look forward to trying out the strip technique next year.
